The Renishaw MIH-S (manual indexable head - serial) utilizes an RS232 link, via the MIH-SI interface, to provide feedback of status and lock position to the CMM computer.

Description
The Renishaw MIH-S is adjustable in two axes, both of which can be unlocked by a single thumbwheel operation. A probe / stylus combination can be orientated to 720 different positions and, once the head is locked, each position will be repeatable to 1μm* (0.00004 in) (2σ). Hence the user can return to any chosen position without having to requalify the probe / stylus tip. The current position is shown on the integral liquid crystal display (LCD) and is constantly updated during moves.
